Translation tools streamline the translation processes

Reduce costs and carry out quality assurance on translations by using translation tools

World Translation uses the latest translation tools (CAT tools) to ensure that you get the best translation solution – the most optimal, cost-effective and highest quality solution possible. A translation tool is software that helps our translators and project managers to optimise their work processes. By using translation memories in combination with terminology management we ensure that you get a uniform use of language, save time and reduce costs because the process reuses content and increases the quality of your translations. Better still, you do not need to invest in this technology or know anything about it – we will take care of the whole thing.

How a translation tool works in practice

How a translation tool works in practice
An example of how a translation tool works in practice: A Danish-English translation.

Today, nearly all translations are carried out using CAT tools. CAT means computer-aided translation, and should not be confused with machine translation. The use of a translation tool means it is possible for us to connect customer-specific translation memories with a termbase.

We build up a translation memory when we translate texts for you, because the translation memory contains all of the translations we have carried out for you. It functions as a translation database. The basic concept of a translation memory is that the translated text can be reused in future projects – if you have translated something once before, there is no need to translate it again. In addition, World Translation’s language experts work in close collaboration with you to create a termbase, which contains the company’s specific terminology for the original language and for the languages that texts will be translated into. Once the unique translation memory and termbase are connected to the translation tool, the translator and project manager have all of the necessary information related to the translation and the subsequent quality assurance:

  • Which parts of the text have been previously translated, and where the translation can be reused
  • Whether there are partial translations, which can be used in the new translation
  • How specialist terminology should be translated
  • Which specialist terms must not be used in the translation

The use of translation tools ensures that you get a uniform use of language, save time and reduce your costs, since the reuse of existing translated text costs less and your text is translated faster.

Translation tools play a crucial role in ensuring you have a good translation process. The technology is an important criteria related to good quality assurance of translations. Two examples of reused content in technical texts
  1. If your company produces different variants of a machine, the contents of the manuals and other product information will be similar. The common information that is to be included in these documents should only need to be translated once, but is used in all of the translations.
  2. If your company regularly updates its manuals, for example with the launching of new software, only the new and revised sentences need to be translated. The existing translations of the rest of the manual can be reused.

Termbase and translation memory online access

World Translation company policy is that all termbases and translation memories, which are built up with your translations, are at all times your property, and they are delivered to you on request or at regular intervals. Since both are customer-specific, their contents are also confidential.

In addition, as the owner, you also have the option of accessing the databases online. This means you always have accessible information and you can also work with them in-house, for example to streamline the use of specialist terminology in your source texts.
